The Greeks loved art and they created an idea of beauty that lives nowadays . They were very good in every artistic discipline: architecture, sculpture. Greek art was very important along all ancient Greece History but the most important period is called classical period. The most famous art works were created in this period that lasted from 5th century BC to 4th century BC .
1. Architecture
Greek built their buildings with an human scale and a strict rule of proportion and harmony .
They did not use arch or vault, it just used architraves ( horizontal roof ).
The architecture was defined by column classical orders, these orders defined the s there were three orders : Doric, Ionic and Corinthian.
The main building of Greek architecture was the temple, they were usually built in white marble and painted in different colours ( specially red and blue )
The most important temple was The Parthenon was the most important temple of ancient Greece
The Parthenon is at the Acropolis of Athens . This is a set of temples on a hill of Athens .
Other important buildings were theatres where plays were performed. Nowadays there are greek theatres in cities as Delphi and Epidaurus .
2. Sculpture
Most Greek sculptures and reliefs represented deities and heroes and were in temples. Greek sculptors idealised beauty of human body. Sculptures of classical period represented natural bodies in movement. The most important sculptures were:
